Description
Gatifloxacin is a 8-methoxy fluoroquinolone with a 3-methylpiperazinyl substituent
at C7 inhibits DNA gyrase & topoisomerase IV.
Indications
Gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution is indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis,
keratitis, pre & post operatively to control the infection.
Dosage
The recommended dosage regimen for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis is:Bacterial
conjunctivitis: Instill one drop every two hours in the affected eye(s) f or 1st
2 days.Instill one drop up to four times daily from 3rd to 7th day. Pre operative:
one drop 3 times a day 3 days before the surgery.
Contraindications
Gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in patients with a history of
hypersensitivity to gatifloxacin, to other quinolones, or to any of the components
in this medication.
Warnings & precautions
NOT FOR INJECTION.
Gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution should not be injected subconjunctivally, nor should
it be introduced directly into the anterior chamber of the eye. If an allergic reaction
to gatifloxacin occurs, discontinue the drug. Serious acute hypersensitivity reactions
may require immediate emergency treatment.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy Category C
Since there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, gatifloxacin
solution should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies
the potential risk to the fetus.
Adverse effects The most frequently reported
undesirable effects in the overall study population were conjunctival irritation,
increased lacrimation, keratitis, and papillary conjunctivitis.

Store in a cool dry place. Protect from light.
